One of the best parts of the Cross Country Chase is the experience of meeting folks and making new friends, some of whom leave lasting impressions to carry with us. During the morning of Stage 8 in Tallahassee, Florida, the kitchen staff at the Hampton mingled among the riders as they gulped down breakfast and made ready for the 287-mile day ahead. Andrea, our warm and personable hostess, visited with each of the guests while making sure everyone had what they needed. She even volunteered to help Vicki with nursing duties. Andrea also provided a bit of fellowship as she prayed over the dining room full of hotel guests, offering blessings for our individual journeys.
I asked if she would go out front to bless the riders and their bikes. It was Friday the 13th, after all, so I thought we could use all the help we could get and she was pleased to do so. The love in her uplifting prayer seemed to settle over the parking lot as Chase riders prepared for the hot and humid Florida weather. She hugged several of us, her sweet embrace touching our hearts.
As we motored past the hotel and on into the horizon, there was a brief sighting of a white cross reflected in a nearby river. The vision made for the perfect accompaniment to the grace of Andrea’s blessing for our journey.
