#22 Don Gilmore

Pittsburgh, PA

1941 Indian Scout 741

Hey, it’s Don Gilmore, Chaser #22 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!

I have been involved with motorcycles and riding since 1969. My current bike collection includes a 2014 Polaris Indian Chief Vintage, a 2019 Triumph 1200 Scrambler XE, a 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan, a 1941 Indian 741 Scout and the 1940 Indian Chief that I rode in both the 2019 and 2021 Chase events.

I have driven SCCA autocross and have participated in East Coast Timing Association and Bonneville Salt Flats land speed events.  My land speed race car is a hand built lakester in which I have achieved a top speed of 235 mph.  The team is looking forward to a 300+mph run in August 2022.  I am currently the holder of seven land speed records.

Riding the 2019 inaugural Cross Country Chase event from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Key West, Florida proved to be surprisingly difficult.  There were many new skills to be learned and an 80 year old motorcycle to manage while participating.  It is not as easy as it looks, but you can do it and you will make friendships that will last a lifetime!

The 2021 Chase event held in the Ozarks was a great experience with no motorcycle issues for the 40 Chief.  I was able to ride new roads with old friends, make new friends and get all of my miles.

I am looking forward to the adventure of the 2022 Chase event along RT 66 from Illinois to California.  There will be long days, many miles, and new roads to explore.
