#75 Gary Shorman

Hays, KS

1940 Harley-Davidson WL

Growing up on the family farm in North Central Kansas, motorcycles fast became my favorite form of transportation. From an old Harley to numerous dirt bikes, we covered the farm with motorcycle tracks. My name is Gary Shorman and I will be riding a 1940 WL in the Cross Country Chase.  Several years ago the Motorcycle Cannonball traveled through Kansas making a stop in Dodge City. Since that time, several friends have participated in the Motorcycle Cannonball leading to my excitement about the Chase. The Cross Country Chase will be an adventure of man and machine, with the addition of some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. I’m currently restoring my very first motorcycle, a 1965 Yamaha YA6, and I have a collection of other motorcycles including a 1928 Harley single, and the 1940 WL which you will see in the CCC. Home base is Hays, Kansas, a great home for family and friends. I’m photographed in front of a monument at the site of historic Fort Hays where General Custer and other good guys and bad guys tried to conquer the plains. My day job includes leading a company of nearly 300 employee owners who operate radio stations and internet/cable systems in the Midwest in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Colorado. I’m looking forward to taking the challenge of the Cross Country Chase and possibly meeting some of you along the route.
