My interest in this event began with a rather innocuous call from, as it turns out, number 6 in the event, Steve Klein. He called one night to ask if I wanted to go on a ride in the Ozarks for a few days in July. I checked my calendar and said “Sure, sounds like fun. Count me in.” Then I start receiving all these rules, registration information, equipment requirements, what the . . . ? Bike 1960 or older – OK. Handlebar mounted TP roller navigation box thingamabob – huh? Fire extinguisher! What have you gotten me into this time Klein?
